IMPORTANT: Effective January 1, 2012 new "D" License (Security Officer) applicants must submit all 40 hours in order to receive their license.

Effective January 1, 2012, all new "D" license applicants must submit the *complete* 40 hours of training prior to a license being issued. Whereas new applicants were always able to obtain their temporary blue card and go to work with just the first 24 hours, this will no longer be the case. They will only be issued a blue card, and ultimately the permanent license, upon showing proof of the full 40 hours.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Custumer Service (DOACS), Division of Licesning (DOL) sites that this was done because they had suspended approximately 1,200 Class D Security Officer licenses each month during 2010 because they failed to provide the DOL with proof of completion of the remaining 16 hours of training within 180 days. This resulted in suspension notices being sent to the licensee, which meant a temporary work stoppage, an inconvenience to the agency and client(s) and possibly a withholding of pay for the licensee by the agency until this was resolved.

In order to accommodate the new requirements, we have made changes to the way we have traditionally scheduled our classes. The 24 hour class will now be two 12 hour days on Monday and Tuesday, while the 16 hour class will be two 8 hour days on Wednesday and Thursday. In addition, the 16 hour class is now offered on a weekly basis as opposed to every other week.

In order to make this transition as easy as possible, the Criminal Justice Security Career Institute (CJSC Institute / www.cjscinstitute-edu.com) will be offering the option for 40 hour students to start class either Monday or Wednesday. Those who start with the 24 hour class on a Monday can take the four days in a row or come back at a future time for the additional 16 hours, with the understanding that they can't apply for their license until they have completed the full 40 hours. Students who start on Wednesday will have to come back Monday and Tuesday for the 24 hour class. The payment of $150 (includes all the application support services) will be do on or before sitting in class.
